Cohen Hillel Academy’s curriculum provides a solid foundation from which students can make well-informed choices in today’s changing society. Such preparation will enhance their quality of life and prepare them for future endeavors.
Integration of general studies and Jewish studies provides students with opportunities to experience the relationships between their Jewish and secular lives while embracing the values of ethical and moral living (Derech Eretz). As students move through the grade levels in their studies, they will develop “Habits of Mind” such as thinking, reflecting, inquiring, and acting that they will carry with them far beyond their formal education. Our curriculum provides:
- Knowledge, skills and attitudes gained through sequential learning
- Students opportunities to question, ponder, reflect, investigate and to strive for academic excellence
- An environment that acknowledges, respects and accommodates each learner’s background, individuality, learning style and gender
- A broadening of students’ understanding and an awareness of the world around them and an appreciation of differences among people
- The development of moral, ethical and responsible behavior and attitudes as citizens in a changing global society
- The acquisition of effective communication, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Experiences which encourage the pursuit of life-long learning
As students learn their roles and responsibilities, they develop a sense of their identity as individuals within our school community, along with an understanding of the multiple roles which they play in their families, schools and society.
They come to see themselves not only as active learners, but as active participants in the social processes which they study. The modeling and fostering of a moral and ethical code of behavior, attitudes, thinking and practices are essential to these goals.
